So is it an oxymoron to Rock Steady?

Kinda, sorta.

The terms can be taken as somewhat incongruous, and contradictory.

Unless you grasp the context, which of course you do.

The affirmation divine context

IS……..

When life is rocking you around,

Stay steady as a Rock.

How?

Look to,

Lean on,

Listen to,

THE

ROCK OF ALL AGES.

“From the ends of the earth I will call unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed:

Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

Psalm 61:2

Don’t limit yourself, and don’t let others limit you either.

God delights in blowing your mind, so don’t limit God, by worrying about the mess you’re in right now.

Give God your mess, and let God work a miracle.

Do this everyday and then……

   You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace;

the mountains and hills will burst into song before you,

and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.

 Isaiah 55:12

Many years ago my mother gave me some orange pajamas for Christmas.

Did I hug her and thank her?  Absolutely not.  Instead I acted like a two-year old by bursting into tears and exclaiming, “I Hate Orange”.

What did she do?  The perfect thing of course.  She said, “Don’t worry about it, those pajamas can be exchanged”.

My mother was not only a gracious, highly intelligent woman, she was kind, mature and very wise.

She knew orange pajamas was not my real problem.

My real problem was something she could not fix.  No, it was something I had to fix.

Fast forward 20 years and finally, the problem is fixed.

Today, I just love orange.

Go figure.

And now as luck would have it, I’m staying right next to an Orange Grove. (where I can pick fresh oranges, every day)

Every morning when I wake up and go outside the first thing I smell is Orange Blossoms. (heavenly, delightful)

And I love my life.

Naturally I have not abandoned my love of Red.

It’s just high time Orange got some attention.

Frankly, there are emotional reasons I did not like orange.

The reasons are secret, but telling secrets is an important bonding ritual.

So I’m spilling the beans……..

Once in my life, someone who was supposed to love me a whole lot, gave me a present, (clothing) and it was orange.

Well, they didn’t love me, they were playing games.  But part of the game was to get me a present.

And little eyes were watching as I opened the present.

I didn’t burst into tears when I opened their present.  I just said, “thank you”.

I saved my tears for my mother.  Now why do we do that?  Because it’s safe.  That’s why I did it.

I sure do love my mother, and believe me, she sure has put up with a lot from me, and she loves me with all of her heart.

Sometimes we go through this same scenario with God.

We blame him without even realizing what we’re doing.  When someone else is guilty, God gets the brunt of our grief, our anger, our unprocessed emotions.

But God is love and he lets us know the problem can be exchanged.

Isn’t it funny how the word exchange has the word Change in it.

Change takes courage.

Courage for me meant facing a truth far more frightening than color selection, and dealing with it.

Now that’s heavy.

You can do it though.  We all can.  That’s the beauty of being human.

Orange you glad you can change?

I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me.  Philippians 4:13

Let the petals of your life unfold

NATURALLY

GRACEFULLY

ELEGANTLY.

“He has made everything beautiful in its own time.”

Ecclesiastes 3:11

Here’s my brainstorm for the day.

“If it aint pure, don’t eat it.

That gives everybody a lot of leeway.

Today stay away from the pesticides.

When I worked at Brainerd Baptist School, our janitor’s name was Billy.

On the days the Orkin man would spray, you could hear Billy mumble and grumble these words everywhere he went.

“If it can kill a cockroach, it can kill you.”

People complain that eating organic is so expensive.

So is cancer, alzheimer’s, and all kinds of other disease.

The fun part is, we get to choose.

And that leads me to the verse that says, “wide is the road that leads to destruction….”

Believe me, that verse applies to the body, soul, and spirit.

So choose purity.

You’ll feel better, I promise.

Moving forward makes more sense, than staying stuck on a boring old Fence.

Keep on trucking have some fun,

And crow your heart out when you’re finally done.

Come on everybody, S M I L E !

Are you a giver?

 Thought so,

I am too,

most of the time, at least I try to be,

when I get an opportunity,

oops, time to quit rambling.

Truth is, I need to give more.  Not only do I need to give more, I want to give more.

So, I’m going to take my cue from the Dolphin.

Playing, swimming, jumping, splashing, and Smiling.

This guy’s joy was infectious.

Me thinks me caught the happy bug too.

So now, I will try to infect you too .

How long has it been since a complete stranger found you smiling?

What a wonderful gift to give, and it won’t cost you a thing.

Go ahead and infect someone with your

S M I L E.

Such a spectacular way to share

an affirmation Divine.

Go Ahead and Show Off…

ImageA wise man once taught us there is a time and place for everything.

And sometimes, it’s time to just show off.

Down south they call it “showing out”.

Other places it’s labeled “strutting your stuff”.

Deep down in every human, there lives a longing to ummm………. Show off.

Incidentally, almost anything that’s living has a need to show off.

Cats, Dogs, Birds, Flowers, Whales.

You get the picture.

After we show off, we also crave a great big round of applause, now don’t we.  You really should admit this because it’s mostly 99.9999999999% true.

Please don’t be the reader who is automatically thinking of an exception.  Don’t be draining, “play the game”.  You and I really love a nice round of applause.

So there.

What pray tell are you doing to get that applause?

This is my suggestion.  Each and every day, do at the very minimum, one thing you love, and then smile broadly , and give yourself a big round of applause.

Can you imagine doing something you love 365 days in a row?

I think it’s time to get started, especially we baby boomers.

Remember Christ came to give us life, so we can live it more abundantly.

So it’s time to get started.

And that’s an Affirmation Divine.

If I could live inside a rose I wonder how I’d feel.

What would it be like to stay where it always smelled so wonderful, the colors so beautiful, and the walls so delicate.

Sometimes, when I look at the pictures of roses I’ve photographed I magnify them to the point, where I feel like I’m being sucked inside their mysterious inner core.  Next I feel a little dizzy, and then I laugh and think, am I going crazy, or just becoming drunk on the sheer beauty of roses?

Eventually I get ahold of myself  enough to return to my actual reality.  Upon my return, I’m astounded.  And I can’t quit feeling happy and dazed.

All this from  traveling deep inside an irresistible rose.

And to think, no hangover.

Did  I  just experience a natural high?

Please don’t misunderstand this incredibly  exhilarating phenomena.  Instead  just stare at pure beauty wherever you encounter it, and wait to see what happens.

True beauty, when deeply appreciated, puts you in a better place, and that’s a promise.

Does anybody else out there ever feel this way ?  Or is it just me and Alice.  You know, Alice got sucked into the rabbit hole, and landed in Wonderland.

In a similar way, I make sporadic visits to Wonderland, myself.

Who else is brave enough to admit they do this?  And where is your Wonderland located?

Let me know….because somehow, deep in my soul, I think taking this particular trip is a Divine Affirmation.

P.S.  The above picture was one of my rose pictures taken last summer, and then I ran it through some filters in Photoshop.  I kinda really loved it, so I wanted to share.

Who’s the greatest?  Admit it, that’s what everybody seems to want to know.

People spend all kinds of time trying to decide.  All over the television you see shows dedicated to the greatest wrestlers, footballers, fighters, politicians, gold diggers, bounty hunters, and on and on.  People even get in heated arguments about it.  If I had a dollar for every time I asked Mike to,”turn that T.V. down”, I could buy a lot of Ice cream, (I’ve been craving sweets lately), but I digress.

Now I don’t mind the “Who’s the greatest” topic quite so much when it comes to singers, dancers, or even dress designers.  Needless to say, it’s a pretty universal question.

Even the disciples thought so.  But when Jesus asked them about it, they kept quiet.  That’s probably what I would’ve done too.  Even now, it takes me quite a while to figure some things out, but Sunday morning while the preacher was giving his sermon, I read ahead.

These are the verses that really caught my attention.  In answer to his disciples question about who was the greatest, Jesus said, “If anyone would be first, he must be last of all and servant of all.”  And he took a child and put him in the midst of them, and taking him in his arms, he said to them,”Whoever receives one such child in my name, receives me, and whoever receives me, receives not me but him who sent me.”

Wow, that makes things pretty clear.  Connie and Joey Fowler, my dear sister and brother-in-law, are “The Greatest”.  They are in China right this minute receiving Maelie Barbara into their family.

On this coming Friday they will fly back to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma with their new daughter.

Would everyone who reads this please do me a favor?  Will you please pray for Connie and Joey, and Maelie as they travel home, and transition into their new family life .

In the eyes of Jesus, that would make you “The Greatest“!
